FAQ

Can I bring soup?
No. We will have 5 VERY LARGE pots of home-made vegan/vegetarian soups. Plus a Chocolate Dessert Soup. Plenty for the whole crowd. In 2012, we made 50 gallons of soup!

What can I bring?
You would be welcome to bring a side dish, dessert, appetizer, beer, or bottle of wine. If you like, you can sign up at http://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080C4EAFA92FAB9-2013.

or ya know, just show up with something yummy :)

Where can I park?
Here are the legal places to park around the Neelyhouse, including Waverly Church. http://goo.gl/maps/eLDmV

Does it cost anything?
There is absolutely no charge to attend the big Soup party and no one should feel required to make a donation via our big bowl. We would like to encourage everyone to consider the tremendous wealth that we all live in and give serious thought to making a donation to help those less fortunate. This year, I am hoping that we collect $4,000 (consider a donation of $5-20+ a person) for the Food Bank. Come, eat, drink, enjoy the fun, AND bring a cash/check to support a good cause!

Where do I put my donation to the Food Bank?
There will be a large vase on the main table to collect cash and checks made payable to the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank (GPCFB). 100% of the money collected will be given to the Food Bank.

When should I arrive?

The party has a revolving crowd. Some people like to come early and leave early, others come late and stay late, and there is a soup fanatic crowd who arrive at the beginning and don't leave until well after midnight. We love you all. This year we have decided to start a little earlier than years past, 6:30 PM.

How late is too late to arrive?

We have a great group of friends every year who have “gigs” on Saturday nights. There is always soup and crowd and food until midnight or so. The latest arrival in 2002 (Lenny Young, Soup Savant) was served at 2:34 AM.

Are kids allowed?
Yes, our kids will all be there.
In 2012, 260 Friends (79 kids) attended the 20th Annual Big Soup Party. A number of friends will bring their kids. There will also be a crowd of couples who will get a babysitter just so that they can come, relax, and stay out later. With or without...we hope you will attend.
